Tewtrakul, S., Subhadhirasakul, S., Kummee, S Anti-HIV-1 integrase activity of medicinal plants used as self medication by AIDS patients Songklanakarin J. Sci. Technol., 2006, 28(4) : 785-790 The extracts of selected medicinal plants used as self medication by AIDS patients were investigated for their inhibitory activities against HIV-1 integrase (HIV-1 IN) using the multiplate integration assay (MIA). Of these, the water extract of Eclipta prostrata (whole plant) exhibited the most potent inhibitory activity with an IC50 value of 4.8 μg/ml, followed by the methanol extract of Eclipta prostrata (whole plant, IC50 = 21.1 μg/ ml), the water extract of Barleria lupulina (stem, IC50 = 26.4 μg/ml), the chloroform extract of Barleria lupulina (stem, IC50 = 33.0 μg/ml), the methanol extract of Barleria lupulina (stem, IC50 = 38.2 μg/ml) and the chloroform extract of Piper betle (leaf, IC50 = 39.3 μg/ml), respectively.

Prediction of the interaction of HIV-1 integrase and its dicaffeoylquinic acid inhibitor through molecular modeling approach.

An essential step in the life cycle of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is integration of the double-stranded retroviral DNA into the genome of the host cell. HIV-1 integrase, the enzyme that inserts the vital DNA into the host chromosome, is an attractive and rational target for anti-AIDS drug design because it is essential for HIV replication and there are no known counterparts in ...

Design, Synthesis, Molecular Modeling, In Silico ADME Studies and Anti-HIV-1 Assay of New Diazocoumarin Derivatives

Some new diazo incorporated coumarin compounds were designed and synthesized to evaluate their anti-HIV activity. Overall, compounds were active against HIV at 100 μM. Additionally, no cytotoxic effect was observed at this concentration. The compound with 4-chlorobenzyl group indicated the best anti-HIV activity (52%). Docking studies using the later crystallographic data available for PFV inte...

Design, Synthesis, Molecular Modeling Study and Biological Evaluation of New N'-arylidene-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-5-carbohydrazide Derivatives as Anti-HIV-1 Agents

In an attempt to identify potential new agents that are active against HIV-1, a series of novel pyridopyrimidine-5-carbohydrazide derivatives featuring a substituted benzylidene fragment were designed and synthesized based on the general pharmacophore of HIV-1 integrase inhibitors. The cytotoxicity profiles of these compounds showed no significant toxicity to human cells and they exhibited anti...
